Brief description on the Organisation:
Education, Science, Charity and Arts, are the fourfold purposes of the Portuguese and perpetual Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Their work may take the form of Projects and Programs organized by the Foundation (direct activities) or subsidies awarded to external initiatives (grant giving). The general objectives for the education sector development are: promote the sustainable development; contribute to International Programs for the reduction of poverty; encourage the participation of the wider community. The main axes of their activity in this domain are: human resources training; cultural and educational projects; preparation and production of educational materials; analysis and discussion of educational matters. Concerning the quality system, we use systematic processes of the monitoring and evaluation of the projects we run or coordinate, mostly through the analyses of documents, site visits and external evaluations by independent teams of experts. Activities and experience in the areas relevant for this project and
Skills and/or expertise of key persons involved in this project: The educational and scientific activity is developed mainly with public institutions and in what concerns the education field with schools organized by clusters with different sizes and characteristics. The projects are integrated by reliable and many times transversal activities but the scope of the work is always to promote the quality of the education of the students and develop formal and non-formal education to children and young people from pre-school to high education. To achieve our aim we coordinate innovative projects with schools and other local community partners to create the necessary conditions (environment) to promote the success of students by curricular interventions using new technologies; new methodologies and educational materials; training teachers and other educational staff; engaging external local community (such as municipalities, enterprises, public institutions and departments in charge of youth and social problems, among others). The projects we are running /coordinating in the educational sector are focused in specific needs of a region, or in a target group of students (by age, by specific learning areas, at economic and social risk, in a multicultural environment, with emotional and relationship problems or with special needs/disabled) or also to enhance the teachers qualifications. In order to face these diversity of problems and solutions we work together with the educational institutions aiming to promote the educational success of children and young people and fighting against the academic failure and school drop outs. |
